Union Bank Managed College Savings Plan
Rated in Top 3 by Morningstar.

The Bright Directions 529 College Savings Program, managed by Union Bank & Trust Company, was recently recognized as one of the top 3 advisor-sold 529 plans in the nation. The Morningstar rating (published October 27, 2011) evaluated 529 plans in five different areas – portfolio, performance, price, parent, and people – to determine the overall rating for more than 50 plans nationwide. Bright Directions was only one of three advisor-sold plans to achieve a top-tier rating.

“This national recognition is a reflection of an effective working partnership we have with the state of Illinois in managing the Bright Directions plan,” stated Angie Muhleisen, Union Bank & Trust’s President & CEO. “We are extremely proud of our long-term record of providing nationally leading 529 programs for college savers across the nation over the past eleven years.”

This is Morningstar’s eighth annual rating of 529 Plans and is generally recognized as a leading analyst of college savings plans. The rating included both Advisor and Direct plans. An Advisor 529 plan is where the college saver invests with the assistance of a professional financial advisor.

The Bright Directions plan is especially noted for its solid asset allocation, best in class investment funds, low costs and quality service to its clients. “Our investors and financial professionals appreciate the Union Bank way of providing extraordinary service,” stated Jay Steinacher, Union Bank & Trust’s 529 College Savings Group Manager. “You won’t get a frustrating phone maze when you call us and we go above and beyond to make all aspects of investing with us easy and convenient.”

Union Bank & Trust was selected as program manager for the Illinois advisor-sold Bright Directions College Savings Program in 2005 and added the Alabama CollegeCounts 529 Fund Direct and Advisor Plans in 2010. Union Bank & Trust is a Nebraska-based bank with total bank and assets under management exceeding $11 billion.
