September 13 – 17, 2010
Springfield, Illinois
Get to know one of the great leaders of our nation by visiting Lincoln’s Presidential Museum. You’ll see smoking cannons, talking ghosts and a copy of the Gettysburg Address. This interactive journey takes you from Lincoln’s rustic, log cabin beginnings through his rise to national prominence. You’ll see how Lincoln’s leadership impacted the Civil War and how his wisdom helped heal a wounded nation. Additional stops in Springfield include: Oak Ridge Cemetery, Lincoln’s Tomb Monument, the Old State Capitol Historic Site, Lincoln’s Law Office, Lincoln’s Home and a visit to New Salem.
Hannibal, Missouri
Enjoy the roots of another American icon, Mark Twain. We will tour the authentically restored boyhood home of Mark Twain and experience first-hand the inspiration for “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.” We will visit the adjoining Mark Twain Museum, dine on the Mark Twain Riverboat Dinner Cruise and have an authentic riverboat experience on the “Mighty Mississippi.”
Nauvoo, Illinois
This historic city, once one of the largest cities in Illinois, is home to more than 60 restored historic sites, three visitors centers, museums and shopping. In 1839, the Prophet Joseph Smith led his Mormon followers to Nauvoo where they flourished until they were forced out of town in the 1840’s and their temple was burned. We’ll visit the Temple, which was rebuilt in 2002, and experience demonstrations of old-time crafts by skilled artisans.
Cost includes transportation, 4 nights lodging, 4 dinners, all entry fees and gratuities.
