Union Bank Place

An iconic piece of downtown Lincoln history

Built in 1976, the Union Bank Place building has long captured the hearts of Lincolnites and Nebraskans. We’re proud to be stewards of such a significant space.

Lincoln’s own piece of notable architecture

The building was designed by New York City-based architectural firm I.M. Pei and Partners. Other notable projects by this firm include the JFK Presidential Library and Museum outside Boston, the renovation of the Louvre Museum in Paris including the famous Pyramid entrance, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, and the National Gallery of Art East Building in Washington, D.C.

    Nebraska in a building

If you step back from the building and stare at it long enough, you might notice something familiar about its shape. That's right: The building was designed to roughly resemble the outline of Nebraska!

  • A Unique Construction

    A Unique Construction

A prime example of Brutalist architecture

The building is composed of cast-in-place reinforced concrete, which serves as both the structural and finish material. No other building of this size in Nebraska or surrounding area can claim the same. The buff color of the concrete you see both inside and outside the building was created by adding a coloring pigment as the concrete was mixed, allowing for a uniform and warm feeling throughout the building.
