How to move money to and from your youth checking account
Once you have opened your Simply Free Student checking account, you’ll need to know how to move money in and out of your account, whether you’re sending it to a different account of yours or paying back an IOU to your parents. Below, we’ll list a few different ways you can move money, as well as some smart tips about how to access your funds.
Move money out
You’ll use UBTgo to move money between your accounts or send money to other people, so make sure you’re enrolled first. If you’re not yet, just follow the steps to sign up.
You'll use an internal transfer when you’re moving money between accounts you own, like from checking to savings. In the app, tap Transfer/Pay, then Transfer Money. From there, simply choose where the money is coming from and where it’s going, enter the amount, and pick the transfer type:
- Immediate transfer: Moves money right away
- Recurring transfer: Happens on a schedule (like paying your parents for your portion of the family cell plan every month, for example)
- Future transfer: Set it now, but it moves on a specific date later
If you’re sending money to someone else, you’ve got a few options:
- UBT to UBT: Great for sending money to someone you know who also banks at UBT (like a parent or roommate). You’ll need their account number in order to add them.
- You can also use Zelle®, BillPay, and external transfers.
Move money in
Whether you need to deposit a check from grandma or some tip money you have laying around, just swing by your local branch and a friendly banker will deposit the money into your account. You can also deposit checks using the mobile deposit feature in the UBTgo app — simply tap Deposit at the bottom of the screen and select Deposit Check, then take pictures of the front and back of the check.
If you’re employed, you can also receive direct deposits from your job in your Simply Free Student account. You’ll just need to know certain details about your account, such as your account number and UBT’s routing number (104910795). To find your account number, select your account in UBTgo and tap Details.
Spending options
Now that you have your own checking account, you’ll be able to spend your money easily. Here are some of the different ways you can spend:
- Debit card: You can spend via your very own designer debit card, given (or mailed) to you upon account opening. (For tips on setting up customized alerts, controls, and limits, click here.)
- Mobile wallet: For an easier way to spend securely, you can also add your debit card to your mobile wallet. This also ensures that you’ll virtually always be able to spend when you need to, even if you leave your debit card at home.
- ATMs: Any UBT account (including your Simply Free Student account) also comes with the perk of our vast network of 24/7 ATMs. If you’re away from home or if we don’t have any ATMs near where you live, we also belong to the MoneyPass network of ATMs which offers surcharge-free options across the United States.
