Heartland Cancer Foundation (HCF) is a non-profit organization that was created to provide financial assistance to local, low-income individuals who are undergoing cancer treatment.  HCF has one belief:  people with cancer should not fall behind in meeting basic living expenses because they can't afford their everyday expenses.  The financial burdens that accompany a cancer diagnosis can be devastating for anyone but especially for those who are already struggling.

Funds from The Big Give, presented by UBT, will allow us to increase our program's budget to help even more patients. This financial support includes housing, car payments, gas cards, and utilities. As inflation continues to rise for the people we serve, all those expenses become more of a hardship for them to pay. If The Big Give were to choose HCF as an award recipient, we will be able to provide real, immediate, and meaningful help to those who are hurting because of rising costs in their core household expenses.

Cancer is the 2nd-leading cause of death and this year alone, over 10,000 Nebraska residents will receive a new diagnosis. In 2021, HCF provided nearly $400,000 in assistance to 316 local cancer patients. The need continues to rise each year and this grant will allow us to provide the assistance needed to empower cancer patients who are struggling financially to focus on what matters most: healing.
