We kicked off the new year with Journey’s popular Tune-Up Tuesdays series. January is generally about self-improvement, as in doing things better and perhaps picking up a new skill or two, and we wanted to aid in that process — we all help each other, after all! So, every other Tuesday at 2 p.m. in January, we visited registered participants virtually with our expert of the week, offering pro tips for a better 2024. Our engaging presenters gave expert pointers for making the most of your smartphone’s camera, getting (or staying) social media savvy, and checking up on your retirement savings and investments to ensure they’re up to the job you have designed for them. To say a good time was had by all in this series is such an understatement. What a fun learning experience — times three! And not to worry if you missed out; individual recaps and video links are below.

Tune Up Your Smartphone Photography 2.0: Easy Techniques for Even Better Pictures

Featuring John Keller, BA, MBA Owner, Photography by Keller; Photographer & Educator

In this enjoyably interactive session, photographer and photography instructor John Keller returned to share more of his most popular tips, tricks, and photography phacts with Journey friends, using his own pictures as examples. As a plus, we got to see some beautiful landmarks and scenery.

From the importance of gridlines, steadying shaky hands, and getting enough light to all the instruments, apps, and gadgets available to you to make editing and enhancing your photos a snap, John took us on quite the journey, complete with questions in real time. What a treat!

We are very sorry, but due to a Zoom error, there is no video available for this presentation. We invite you to view our 2023 Tune Up Tuesday segment, Tune Up Your Smartphone Photography: Easy Techniques for Better Pictures. You may want to first download the free app Snapseed. John recommends it, and it’ll be easier to follow along. We also invite you to contact John for individualized photography class options.

Tune Up Your Social Media Skills: Simple Ways to Stay Connected

Featuring Bri Prai — Digital Marketing Coordinator at Union Bank & Trust

Bri loves all things social, and it shows! She took us through a high-level review of social media — including who’s using what and how — before landing on Facebook. There, in her happy place, Bri showed us how to post a photo, set up a profile, check privacy settings, safely post about happenings, and more. See how to ensure you don’t miss a single post from your grands or other special humans, and why Facebook is the perfect place to stay in touch with your favorite bank or nonprofit.

A couple of questions came up during the session that we wanted to circle back to. Bri recommends these instructions, compliments of IDownloadBlog, for setting up a legacy contact to access your account should you pass away or be incapacitated. Scroll down for desktop instructions. And if you believe your account has been hacked or otherwise compromised, visit Facebook’s hack reporting page, and click the “My account is compromised” button for assistance. Facebook help desk staff will assist you with course correction and help you log back in so you can regain control.

Tune Up Your Finances: Time for a Retirement Check-In

Featuring TJ Hansen, CFP® — Wealth Advisor, UBT’s Union Investment Management Group

TJ takes his clients’ retirement very seriously (it’s his job), but his demeanor is anything but. In his totally approachable, easy-to-understand style, he took us through a great financial planning overview with a presentation titled “Roadmap to Retirement.” First, though, we got to “meet” the folks behind our investments with an interesting look at the UIMG picture pages and an explanation of the whole-team approach — pretty standard at UBT, where your money has people.

From the binder approach, to FRAs and RMDs, to supplementing Social Security income and the importance of asset allocation both before and during retirement, TJ covered it all, and we had a front-row seat. Whether you missed it entirely or just couldn’t write notes fast enough the first time, you’ll want to watch this segment. Check it out before you schedule your check-in!
