Recapping Journey’s Tune-Up Tuesdays series
In January, the UBT Journey Program hosted Tune-Up Tuesdays, a series designed to help get the kinks out of the new year — after all, 2020 was kind of a doozy, and there were plenty of areas in our lives that had started to feel a little out of alignment as we faced a new year. Some of us were feeling a little fluffy around the middle after frenzied holiday feasting, and some of us had given up workouts for binge-watching, especially when the winter blues set in. And our finances in the new year? Well, many of us were facing post-holiday-shopping deficits, while others were wondering what to do with their investment accounts, retirement, and estate plans. So, we called the cavalry, and they arrived — every Tuesday at 2 p.m. in January. If you missed out on the festivities each week, not to worry! You can watch the broadcasts using the links below; we’ve provided recaps so you know what you’re in for.
Tune Up Your Workouts
Featuring Sarah McCurley, BA — Certified Fitness Instructor, Master Barre Teacher and Trainer, Certified Yoga Teacher, and Zoom Fitness Instructor
Sarah breathed new life into our workouts and how we viewed movement. She offered creative suggestions about finding your optimal time and way to exercise, introduced the concept of “fitness snacks “ (we love anything with the word snack in it), and took us through a surprisingly lively seated workout to a peppy playlist — and yes, we sang along.
Tune Up Your Eating Habits
Featuring Sam Dolezal, MS, MSE, CSCS — Wellness Advocate at Union Bank & Trust
Sam walked us through eating “mini habits” — changes that are so subtle you’ll hardly notice the day-to-day difference. However, the small tradeoffs can add up to big nutritional wins, not to mention major payoffs. Her fun, honest talk on healthy eating tips made us feel better about where we are now and how easy it is to do it better.
Tune Up Your Emotional Well-Being
Featuring Gail Sutter, LMHP, CEAP — Executive Director at Continuum
Gail shared some keen insights on emotional fitness, such as how we often spend more time on physical fitness and other areas of personal maintenance then we do our mental well-being, worrying about our mental health only in times of duress. By taking a more proactive approach to our emotional well-being, building resilience, and attempting to adjust the lens through which we view our lives, we are better able to roll with it — a crucial skill in this post-holiday pandemic period we’re living in.
Tune Up Your Finances
Featuring a panel of UBT experts:
Caitlin Moore, M.A., Certified Financial Coach and Financial Educator
Jason Hemenway, M.A. Trust Officer, Retirement Plans Services Education Manager
Leslie Gibbens, CCTS, CTFA, Vice President and Trust Services Advisor
Samantha Eckhardt, CFP®, Vice President and Private Client Advisor for Union Investment Management Group
This segment was the perfect place to pick up pro tips on financial fitness, as four UBT specialists gave pointers on important January to-do items as they pertained to your general budget, retirement and estate plans, and investment accounts. Caitlin took us through adjusting our budgets to recover from holiday spending (including some great insights about putting your credit card bonuses to work), Jason took the mystery out of retirement plan allocations and review, Sam gave sound advice on risk and investments (among other things), and Leslie covered what a detailed estate plan entails and why it’s important to keep it up to date. This presentation was jam-packed with can’t-miss financial info, but don’t take our word for it! Watch for yourself.
