Magic Moments: The George Family

“Beth is a humble woman exhibiting tremendous strength in the face of many challenges.”

— Brea Diaz, Beth’s nominator

Beth George has endured several bouts with Covid in the past year as well as issues with her rental house — which is unfortunate, as Beth doesn’t really have time for health or housing issues. She works two jobs, is a full-time mom to 14-year-old daughter Catalina, and acts as caregiver to her mom, Lorraine, who moved in with them as her cancer was progressing. Having Lorraine with her allows Beth to better take care of her and get her to her appointments and treatments in Omaha. It’s not a sacrifice at all — look at all Lorraine has done for her. You take care of family, and you keep going, no matter what.

The respect they deserve

The love of family is a good thing, as life has presented some challenges along the way. But Beth has always found a way to navigate, willing things to work out. One of Beth’s jobs is Benevolence Coordinator at Christ Place Church. She works with families struggling to make ends meet, or with life in general, to connect them with resources and let them know they have options for help. Beth knows a little something about living paycheck to paycheck, and how tough it can be, and she treats these folks with the respect they deserve. Brea Diaz, who works with Beth at Christ Place, finds Beth inspiring: the way she is always fighting to do what is right, the impact she has on her church community and the folks she works with, and the way she takes solace in her family. She admires her hard-working, never-give-up attitude and her concern for others even while facing hardships herself. Brea nominated Beth and her family for a Magic Moment, thinking Beth, Lorraine, and Catalina deserve some extra warmth this season. UBT’s Magic Moments committee was quick to agree!

Care for the caregiver

There is so much love in this family, it’s palpable, and this cozy family of three takes advantage of downtime together. Beth enjoys painting, reading, and writing and collects board games, while Lorraine also enjoys diamond abstract art projects and listening to music. Catalina is a teenage girl who loves shoes, jewelry, and makeup.

UBT, our amazing partners, and the Magic Moments team felt this family deserved a holiday that is beyond special. We also felt some care was in order for the woman who is always caring for others, so the first item on the gift list was a spa box for Beth from Simple Wellness. Gas cards will ensure they make it to Lorraine’s treatments, not to mention the family outings we have planned, as passes, gift cards, memberships, and Lied Center tickets will provide for a year of group fun. Movie night basics, household essentials, art supplies, and special gifts for each family member round out the holiday celebration.

We’re wishing the George family the season’s very best. Lorraine, we’re really rooting for you, and Beth, please take a break! Happy holidays, George family!
