“Heather is a great servant to others and is always putting others’ needs before hers.”
— Nina Trumble, Heather’s nominator
If you asked Heather Clark what she does for a living, she would probably tell you that she “just runs a home daycare,” like it’s no big deal at all. But the parents of the kiddos entrusted to her care would beg to differ. They’d tell you that finding a safe, affordable, caring place to take your children, especially when you have to work crazy hours, is everything to them. Heather supplies comfort, support, and love to all her daycare children, and the parents know they can count on her, even in a pinch. Heather has three daughters of her own: Emily, who’s 19, 13-year-old Rhiana, and Joey, age 9. She knows how tough it is to earn a living and to be there for them, and she knows it takes a village to keep a child safe and help them develop into great humans. She’s pretty proud to be part of that village for her daycare families — it’s a great honor.
Heather is also proud to help her community — in fact, she feels it’s her duty. That’s why there’s a Little Free Pantry in her yard. There’s always a need, and Heather is familiar with many of those who frequent her pantry. One day, a gentleman who visits frequently (and never takes more than he needs) stopped by and found the cupboard bare. Heather was determined not to turn him away hungry, so she gave him a couple bags of the groceries she was unpacking from her car. She believes we need to share what we have, no matter the amount; it’s the right thing to do. Nina Trumble, whose daughter goes to Heather’s daycare, sees how much Heather does for others and nominated Heather for a Magic Moment. We couldn’t wait to meet this compassionate woman who gives so selflessly.
Grilling and game nights, coffee time and sports
Heather, her girls, and Heather’s boyfriend Cary love to take advantage of family time whenever the opportunity presents. They enjoy cooking together — Cary loves to cook, and his grilling is the best! They’re also really into family game nights. Heather and the girls can often be found curled up together, sipping coffee and hot chocolate, crafting, or reading. Sports are huge for the family; all the girls have played softball, and they enjoy watching the Huskers play… well, anything!
In this season of giving, UBT, our amazing partners, and the Magic Moments team thought a bit of giving back was in order. A fancy new Blackstone grill and gift card to Del Gould meats will really elevate grilling nights, and a whole slew of new games will add to game nights. Passes, gift cards, and memberships (including tickets to Saltdogs and Husker basketball games) will add to the family fun. Donated craft supplies and other hand-picked gifts speak to each family member’s interests. We’ve also arranged for some pampering for Heather and a re-stock for her Little Free Pantry, as well.
We’re wishing Heather, Cary, and family the season’s very best — and Heather, thanks for making a difference in the lives of your daycare families. Happy holidays from UBT!
